Soap

I made soap. I've been wanting to try this for years, but just haven't gotten around to it. Finally, my good friend Courtney introduced me to the art of "hand-milling" or "rebatching" soap. I have always liked handmade soap better than the soap you can buy in stores, but most "crafters" sell their handmade soap for at least $3.00 a bar or even more. Um, ya, not gonna buy that. But, certain members of this family have very dry skin and can't use store-bought soap without getting extremely itchy and dry. So, making this soap myself ended up costing me around 42 cents a bar.....that I can handle. I made lilac, french vanilla with oatmeal, and yuzu fruit.

what an excellent idea! dry skin must run in this family...i think everyone in my family has dry skin. i have to lotion every inch after every shower. and additional foot lotion before bed every night. ridiculous. i can't even wash my face every night because i don't have enough oils to keep my skin from drying out. so i only wash a couple of times a week. i guess i shouldn't complain about that though! :)

Looks great! Too bad we can't all smell it. Yuzu sounds fun.

One hint: if you stand them up on end they'll dry faster for you. I always stand our shower bar up after using it too so it doesn't sit in a puddle and get mushy.

I made soap, but I bought the expensive crap and then my kids dumbed too much perfumy stuff (we bought the little vials) and I was sneezing for weeks. I made them give it away to Grandma and Grandpa. hahaha. Who's gonna reject a gift from their grandkid? Needless to say, we won't be making soap again.
