
Actually, these caterpillars don't make cocoons, they make chrysalides.....and ours started their process! The caterpillars ate and grew and ate and grew, then they all went to the top of the container and just hung there. Before you know it, their skin starts cracking off and there hangs the pupae. It's quite amazing. The kids love watching them. Here they are documenting (drawing) the changes in their nature notebooks.

We just moved these little guys into the butterfly habitat. They are still in their chrysalides. One chrysalis started shaking like crazy when I moved them. It was funny.
